                        MEDIUM TO LARGE TOMATOES:

COSMONAUT VOLKOV
An heirloom from Russia, weather tolerant, medium red round tomato with excellent flavor, a winner of many contests.
JET STAR
A hybrid, a classic, very good looks and good flavor in a medium sized round red tomato with few defects such as cracking or yellow shoulders.
BEEFSTEAK MIX
These will be large – that’s all we can say. You could get any color, but all are heirlooms so if you like them you can save the seeds!
JUBILEE
A glorious orange tomato, hardy in less than perfect conditions, bears well and tastes great. Heirloom. Great color on a mixed platter.
COSTOLUTO (RIBBED)
An heirloom Italian ribbed beefsteak tomato with great flavor, somewhat acidic, great for sauces as well as slicing.
RUBY GOLD
Not a cosmetically perfect tomato, prone to radial cracking, this huge red and yellow marbled tomato will look just fine sliced on your plate! Spectacular sweet mild flavor.
BOXCAR WILLIE
Big red tomatoes with old fashioned flavor and good vigor and productivity. A beloved heirloom that we are trying for the first time.
MONEYMAKER
An English heirloom with nice looking round red golf ball sized fruit and classic flavor. Tolerant of humidity and ‘sea fog.’
GLACIER
One of the only early ripeners that really tastes like a summer tomato. Resists cold weather too.
PRUDEN’S PURPLE
This heirloom is a ‘potato leaf’ type, with irregular pink 1# fruit which some people think is better than Brandywine, earlier, and easier to grow. Very few seeds, vigorous.
ROSE DE BERNE
An heirloom from Switzerland, these medium sized round pink translucent tomatoes have won many taste contests with their sweet yet rich flavor.
GREEN ZEBRA
This heirloom was the surprise winner of the 06 tomato tasting at Polly Hill. It’s green! (yellow stripes tell you it’s ripe) One of our favorites.

 

                        PLUM, PEAR AND CHERRY TOMATOES:

SPECKLED ROMAN
A paste tomato with a cult following, this beautiful orange and red splashed Roma type tomato makes the best possible sauce. Meaty 4-5 oz. fruits.
RED PEAR
This is the classic little red pear tomato, just a little larger than a cherry.
YELLOW PEAR
The yellow cousin of the above, mild and cute, a great favorite with the children.
RED FIG
A very old small to medium pear tomato with good flavor, somewhat prone to cracking in wet weather.
BLACK CHERRY
An heirloom dark (actually reddish brown) cherry tomato with a complex sweetness. Lovely!
SWEET BABY RED CHERRY
Widely mixed, an unfinished breed being developed by small northeast farmers, for seed savers and experimenters; expect variety… they’re all good!
SUNGOLD CHERRY
Everyone’s favorite cherry tomato; even people who don’t like tomatoes can’t stay away from these little snackers. Orange hybrid.

 

                            SPECIALTY TOMATOES:

REISETOMATE   (VOYAGE)
Strange. It looks like a cluster of cherry tomatoes, but it’s really one lobed fruit – pull apart to eat. A very productive German heirloom.
VARIEGATED TOMATO
A medium red tomato with white and green variegated leaves. Flavor unknown, an experimental crop for us this year.
GARDEN PEACH
 
 
 
 
 
This heirloom came to America in 1862. Sweet, mild, juicy 2 oz. yellow fruits blush pink when ripe and have a lightly fuzzy skin like a peach. Stores up to 2 months!

 

                CUCUMBERS

 

SLICING CUKE

Marketmore, Dr. Henry Munger’s classic open-pollinated cucumber for the ages, long the leading slicing variety in the Northeast. Dark green 8-8-1/2" fruits.
PICKLING CUKE
The best pickler in our supplier’s trials, Cross Country bears abundant blocky straight dark green white-spined fruit of uniformly good quality.
CORNICHON
This open-pollinated variety is used to make the tiny sour pickles featured in French cuisine. Pick the fruits when they are finger sized for delicious cornichons, or allow them to grow to normal size for crisp bread ’n butters.
BOOTHBY'S BLONDE
From Maine, short plump oval fruits which average 3-4" and become yellower as they mature. They feature a creamy exterior with contrasting black spines and a juicy refreshing interior.
POONA KHEERA
4-5" fruits turning from mayonnaise color to golden yellow to russet brown, shaped almost like a potato as they mature. At each stage they remain extremely crisp, sweet, juicy, refreshing and bitter-free. An heirloom from India.
MIDDLE EASTERN
This long slicing type features green smooth-skinned fruits; refreshingly cool, enjoyably mild and almost completely free of bitterness. An open-pollinated variety,
LEMON CUKE
Beloved by salad chefs and backyard gardeners alike for its heavy yields of rounded 3" fruits shaped somewhat like lemons; introduced by Samuel Wilson of Mechanicsville, PA in 1894.

 

                MELONS:

 

COLLECTIVE FARM WOMAN MUSKMELON
An heirloom Russian variety that is more tolerant of cool nights than most. Small to medium round melons with excellent flavor. Rare.
HANNAH’S CHOICE MUSKMELON
6-1/2 x 5-1/2" large netted oval melons average 3-5 lb. with a high Brix rating of 13. As stunning on the inside as it is imposing on the outside, its rich green rind contrasts with the deep orange flesh.
WATERMELON
One of the best oblong watermelons for cooler areas. 10-13 lb. fruits with sweet bright red flesh. Green rind with dark stripes.
