The following CLASSES are available by request, customized for your group of four or more (including yourself.) They cost $25/person, run for about 2 hours, and come with handouts and materials.
NATURE WRITING: make ink from berries, a pen from a feather, and write on leaves. We will also use readily available modern materials to get similar effects. Fun for kids, and great for unleashing creativity in adults. Take home your own quill pen.
WEEDS FOR YOUR NEEDS: Lamb’s quarters, pig weed, goose foot, cat briers – weeds have been with us so long they are almost domesticated. Learn some common weeds of Martha’s Vineyard and how to use them for food and fun. We will not be weeding the garden during this class… but you may want to harvest some of your own weeds when you get home.
FLOWER POWER: Luther Burbank, the great plant breeder, said “flowers… are sunshine, food, and medicine for the soul.” Stroll the farm to see what’s blooming, and learn games, recipes, and old time remedies using common flowers. Includes a 1# jar of farm honey.
YARN 101: Meet our sheep and find out about all the steps from fleece to garment. Learn the anatomy of yarn and try your hand at spinning. Take home your own hand spindle and some wool ready to spin. Comes with a free refresher lesson if needed. Great background class for knitters.
